UNIAN: Commission of Judges wants to close interviews with judicial candidates from the public
The High Qualification Commission of Judges believes that transparency of the procedure for selection and appointment of judges leads to discreditation of the judicial system, as well as attacks on judges motivated by greed.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges is considering the possibility to stop the procedure of conducting open interviews with judicial candidates. According to UNIAN correspondent, during the round table dedicated to the judicial reform the Head of the Commission Serhii Koziakov noted that the procedure for selection of judges in Ukraine is unprecedently transparent, and in many cases this transparency may harm judges.
“For example, during the interview with a judge or a candidate for the position of a judge some negative facts about him or his property are presented. It becomes a common knowledge. Later, the judge gives explanation that his property was legally acquired. Or it turns out that property which was attributed to a judge belongs to the person bearing the same family name. And when this information is already released to public, you can imagine yourself in the place of this person. Such a judge may be declared dishonest”, said Koziakov to reporters after the event.
He also added that transparency of the procedure for selecting judges leads to the fact that “problems that one judge appears to have are transferred to the entire judicial system”.
Moreover, Koziakov added that transparency of the interview procedure cause damage to displaced judges from occupied territories. “These judges have property in those territories where their relatives live. And this year, as a response to requests of these judges, we conducted interviews with them in closed mode. There are about 200 of such judges who have moved from temporarily occupied territories”, said the Head of the HQCJ.
