NABU and SAPO returned unique medical radiological equipment to pediatric clinic
NABU and SAPO returned unique radiological equipment to the National Specialised Pediatric Clinic “OKHMATDYT.” It will be used for diagnostics and medical treatment of childhood cancer. Although the equipment is a material evidence in a criminal case, the investigators allowed using it before the investigation is over. It was transferred to the clinic.
Above-mentioned equipment was bought at the expense of state budget back in 2012, but it was never installed in the clinic. On October 5, 2017 NABU and SAPO found and seized medical equipment during a search. It was conducted in the course of criminal investigation of alleged embezzlement of state funds during constructions of a new pavilion of the OKHMATDYT clinic in 2011-2012.
According to the investigation, state-owned entreprise “Ukrmedproektbud” purchased overpriced equipment at the expense of the state budget from the private company overpaying 23 million UAH while equipment’s market price was 12 million UAH only. After the equipment was delivered to Ukraine in 2013, it came up that the supplier has not received a license to install it, and consequently the state enterprise was forced to give it back to the supplier for preservation. The supplier, in its turn, transferred it to the third party without any permission.
NABU and SAPO started investigation into this case in September 2017, and in less than a month successfully found the equipment. The Healthcare Ministry is currently seeking for licensees to install it.
