Court cancelled dismissal from job of accounting chamber head, suspected in power abuse

In November 2016 NABU and SAPO issued and handed a notice of suspicion for abuse of power to Roman Mahuta, the Head of the Accounting Chamber, a body empowered to control the use of the state budget funds.

On June 9 the court changed preventive measure for Mahuta from house arrest to the release upon personal guarantees, as well as cancelled his dismissal from the job. SAPO appealed such a decision, but unsuccessfully, the court refused to consider it.

This case is a blatant proof of inability of first instance courts to deliver justice in top corruption cases, therefore a separate Anticorruption Court is crucially needed.
