Automaidan activists face four to seven years in jail for throwing eggs

On November 29, 2018, at 12 pm the first hearing in a case regarding three Automaidan activists will be held in Pechersk district court of Kyiv. They may face four to seven years in prison for throwing eggs at Poroshenko’s Bloc MP Oleh Barna in July 2017.

On December 18, 2017 AutoMaidan activists Sergiy Hadzhynov, Oleg Pushak and Bogdan Melnyk were handed notices of suspicion in the criminal case. Three eggs thrown at the MP Oleg Barna in July 2017 were qualified by the prosecution as battery of a public official. At maximum it can be considered as an disorderly conduct – not at all as multiple beatings.

The criminal proceeding intensified right after December 2017 motorcade “A Blanket for the Prosecutor General” near Lutsenko’s house. Barna also informed that he did not appeal to the law enforcement agencies.

This “extremely complicated” case was investigated by 15 officers.

5 years ago, on November 30, 2013, Avtomaidan’s first ever rally took place after the students were beaten by special police force Berkut.
